When we think of wellness, we tend to think about our food and exercise choices. However, our mental health is an absolutely vital piece of the puzzle. Learning how to de-stress from the day and maintain anxiety in a healthy way feeds into your overall wellbeing in tremendous ways.
Two of my favorite ways to work on my mental health is by journaling and stretching.
Stretching is great for relieving stress. Stress causes your muscles to tense up — so when you stretch, focus on the areas where you are holding your stress. For most people that tends to be the neck, shoulders and upper back. Stretching can be used as a method to calm your mind, as well. While you stretch, focus on mindfulness and meditation exercises to help give your mind a mental break.
Journaling is one of the best ways to deal with overwhelming feelings, managing stress and anxiety. It allows you to prioritize problems, fears, concerns, and plans. It can help you track day-to-day feelings and help you pinpoint what causes you to have certain feelings and thoughts. When you put it down on the page, you often feel more clarity and calmness. Sometimes the answer is there in your very words.
Set aside a few minutes every day to check in with yourself and write down your thoughts. This would be a great way to brain dump and unwind before bed and help calm any thoughts you may have that could keep you up. It can help quieten the voices in your head.
Talk to me – do you journal? Do you find it helpful, or just another chore to do. What do you journal about, and what tips do you have that help you with the process. Are you an evening journaler?
What about stretching? Do you do it regularly and does it help? What are your top tips on stretching, and what is your favourite?
Loving to hear from you.
